Our Story

CUCEPTFU was founded by teachers at Concordia University’s Centre for Continuing Education in 1991. Since then, we have negotiated eight collective agreements. By using an interest-based, problem-solving approach, CUCEPTFU has made a difference for its members.

What has the Union done for its members?

A lot! Through solidarity and collective bargaining, we have been able to make significant gains:

  • salary insurance coverage for up to three sessions in case of illness or accident
  • 7 days paid bereavement leave; 7 days paid emergency leave and/or compassionate leave should someone close to you require your presence
  • comprehensive health insurance for instructors who meet seniority requirements
  • access to the Concordia University Employee Assistance Program, which provides personal, couples and family counselling
  • generous parental leave provisions
  • a professional development fund
  • tuition waivers of 30 credits per year for two family members (for instructors with six years or more of service)
  • fair and objective course assignment procedures
  • further employment security for instructors for whom the Centre is their main employer
