Health and Drug Plans

As per clause 21.05, Continuing Education Part-time Instructors are eligible to participate in either the Health Plan or the Drug Plan as follows: those who have accumulated 720 hours of service in the English department or 30 seniority points in the other departments are eligible for the Health Plan, and those with less than the seniority thresholds mentioned above are eligible for the Drug Plan.

Provincial law requires that employees participate in any prescription drug insurance plan which is offered by their employer. In other words, participation in the Health or Drug plan is compulsory. However, it is possible for instructors to opt out if they are covered by another plan, either through another employer, a spouse, a professional association, or a student health plan. Note that it is not possible to opt out by virtue of the RAMQ (the Quebec Government drug insurance plan).

The Health Plan covers a portion or all of a variety of medical expenses including:

• Prescription Drugs
• Emergency care and travel assistance outside your province of residence
• Hospital care such as semi-private rooms
• Medical and paramedical care including ambulance services, diagnostic services such as lab tests, X-rays, or similar imaging procedures, and hearing aids
• Paramedical practitioners including chiropractors, osteopaths, naturopaths, licensed masseurs, licensed acupuncturists and physiotherapists
• Psychologists and psychiatrists

The Drug Plan covers prescription drugs, and the coverage is roughly equivalent to the provincial government plan (RAMQ)
